On September 5, a buzzworthy bagel shop from New York City opened, and students have not stopped talking about it since. With a viral TikTok presence, the shop has drawn lines that wrap around the building. Despite the wait, the hype hasn’t slowed down as people are still eager to get a taste.
Rosemary Garon and Ali Ibanez decided to sample the bagels and be completely honest about them.
What makes PopUp stand out is the freshness behind every bite. Each bagel is hot out of the oven, never sliced, and meant to be eaten using the “Grip and Rip” method. This unique approach, paired with its chewy texture and warm, doughy inside, makes it unlikely any other bagel experience.
“I’ve never had a bagel this good. It is so hot and fresh. The wait in the line is completely worth it,” said Jackie Johnson (‘27). “As soon as you rip it open, the steam comes out, and it just tastes amazing.”
Social media is fueling the craze. PopUp’s TikTok and Instagram posts have been viral, amassing millions of likes as videos showcase the bagels being pulled apart and dipped into butter and spreads.

Exclusivity also drives the hype. Costumes can’t simply order one bagel, they must order in bundles: three with one schmear, six with two, or eight with three. On top of that, the menu changes weekly, rotating flavors of both bagels and spreads. This creates a sense of urgency, pushing customers to come back before the flavors disappear.
The inside of PopUp is minimal, with just enough room for ordering and picking up bags of bagels. Seating is very limited, meaning most customers head outside or inside their cars to enjoy their bundles. The focus is clearly on the bagels themselves rather than creating a sit-down dining space.
Prices reflect their popularity. A three-pack goes for $12, a six-pack for $21, and a dozen for $42. Extra schmears cost $7 each, making the add-ons nearly as much of a commitment as the bagels themselves. Despite the high prices, students say the quality makes it worth every dollar.
“They are fresh and different from any other bagel. They also taste amazing. That’s why everyone keeps coming back,” said Emma Hodgdon (‘26).“When you bite into one, it’s soft and warm in a way other bagels just aren’t.”
