The 2016 Met Gala, formally called the Costume Institute Gala and or the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Costume Insitute in New York City. A women named Eleanor Lambert started the gala in 1948 and each year the event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition. This years theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,”. The hosts this year were Anna Wintour, Chairwoman of the Gala; Jonathan Ive, Chief Design Officer of Apple; Taylor Swift; and the actor Idris Elba. Each star who is formally invited will be dressed formally according the occasion. Tickets this year were $30,000 apiece, and tables are $275,000. Last year alone the Met Gala raised over $12.5 Million.
