Poetry Out Loud 2015

Academy of the Holy Names has been holding the Poetry Out Loud competitions for 6 years. Poetry Out Loud is designed to help students overcome stage fright, improve public speaking skills, help with self-confidence, and at the same time learn about poetry. Poetry Out Loud was a great success this year with Paola Farrah, senior, winning first place and moving on to the state championship. Congratulations Paola!

Paola Farrah shares her thoughts and feelings with us about Poetry Out Loud.

On a scale of 1-10 how scared were you?

Like a 3 or 4. My hands were shaking before hand .
How many times did you practice?

i practiced for three days at least an hour to hour and half
Did you practice in front of a mirror?

I practice while pacing back and forward and looking at a fixed point .
How long did it take you to memorize your poem?

About two hours
Why should you take the event seriously?

I personally enjoy poetry and believe it is another creative outlet for self expression.

Why are you excited or are you not?

I’m pretty pumped! I planned to have my face on sticks!
