Treats to Make for Halloween

There is a whole other world of Halloween treats outside of traditional candy corn and general cupcakes.  A great place to look for Halloween recipes is Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram or even Facebook.  Here are six recipes that truly stand out:

Rice Krispie Treat Pumpkins

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 bag large marshmallows (approximately 40 marshmallows)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • Red and Yellow Liquid Food Coloring
  • Mini Rolos
  • Green M&Ms
  • ¼ cooking oil in small bowl

Witch Finger Pretzel Rods

Ingredients:

  • 28 blanched almonds 
  • 1 tube black gel food coloring
  • 14 large pretzel rods
  • 12 ounces bright green candy coating (used Wilton’s Vibrant Green Candy Melts)

Candy Corn Jello

  • 1 Lemon Jell-O Gelatin (3 oz)
  • 1 Orange Jell-O Gelatin (3 oz)
  • 8 oz thawed Cool Whip
  • 1 ⅓ cups boiling Water
  • Candy Corn

Pumpkin Creme Brulee

Some treats can be healthy and fun too, such as:

Tangerine Pumpkins & Banana Ghosts

Ingredients:

  • Tangerines or Cuties peeled
  • Celery, cut into two small sticks
  • Bananas, peeled and cut in half
  • Mini chocolate chips

Spooky Black Bean Hummus

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 15-ounce cans black beans drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons tahini
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons lime or lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • ⅛  to ¼  teaspoon chipotle pepper — to taste
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened soy yogurt optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • For Design: additional plain soy yogurt or tahini
