Jags look ahead to exciting spring sport season

The Spring Sports season is upon us, and the Jags are expecting big things this time around. This spring season promises both camaraderie and fierce competition. The spring sports consist of tennis, lacrosse, track and field, softball, and crew, all offering individual mixes of athleticism, strategy, and, most importantly, teamwork.

For several athletes, sports seasons are an excellent chance for them to showcase their hard work, dedication, as well as their talents in their sports. As spring athletes spike up, grip their rackets, or step up to the plate, their hearts are filled with hope, and their minds are full of focus and motivation for the upcoming season.

With their racquets in hand, and determination in their hearts, the tennis players are getting ready for a successful season on the court. Senior Addy Angelone exclaims, “I hope we have an undefeated season and make it all the way to states this year, coming closer together as a team.” And Senior Sophia Johnson states, “My hopes for the season would be to win states. Our team made it to the state semi-finals last year, so I believe we have the potential to win it. We have also been working hard at practice to make sure we are prepared to beat the best teams.” As the team prepares to serve aces and chase down volleys, they do such with hard work and confidence.

The Track and Field team is ready to hit the ground running this year- literally. From short sprinters, to long distance runners, high jumpers to discus throwers, these athletes are ready to give their all and showcase their speed, power, and stamina while in season. Last year, many records were broken and spirits were raised, leaving this year to an even higher standard. Sophomore Zoe Givens states, “My hopes this season are to PR in every event and for my team and I to make it to states.” With eyes set on personal bests and first place finishes, JagTrack is prepared to leave it all on the track.

With gloves at ready, and bats up for action, the Holy Names softball team is getting ready for a heck of a season on the diamond. Senior and Florida Southern Signee, Shelby Savitt states, “This season I have high hopes for our team, especially since we have acquired many great new players. I believe we can win the state championship.” From pitching shutouts to hitting homeruns, the Jag softball players are excited to show off their skills this season and bring their team to victory.

The crew team offers a mix of teamwork, synchronization, and plain determination. Junior rower Lena Graham states, “This year our team increased so much in size and competitiveness. Last year, we qualified to send two boats to nationals in Tennessee to compete. My hopes for the spring season is that those boats make it to nationals again, if not, even more!”

With sticks in their hands and determination in their eyes, the lacrosse players are excited to take charge on the field and showcase their skill as well as their agility. Senior and Winthrop Signee Reese MacDiarmid remarks, “The lacrosse team is really excited for the season. We have a tough schedule and are ready to challenge our limits. Our goal is to be repeat district champs and leave a legacy.” As they pass the ball with finesse and accuracy, the lacrosse players are motivated to leave their mark on the field this season.

As this spring season approaches, our Jags are ready to take on challenges, celebrate their victories, and come out with a bang this spring season, hopefully collecting more fond memories than they did the preceding years. These athletes are excited to make this season one to remember.
