On Saturday, January 18, the Academy of the Holy Names Seniors and families proudly participated in the 2025 Children’s Gasparilla Parade  celebrating one of Tampa’s favorite traditions with excitement and school spirit.

To secure a spot on the AHN float, students completed an interest form in advance and signed permission slips. Participants were given AHN-themed beads, specially made by Academy science teacher John Felletter, and wristbands for the event.

Before the parade, AHN families had the opportunity to participate in a pre-parade picnic on the Academy Bayshore playground, where they enjoyed music from a DJ and food from Colony Grill and Buddy Brew food trucks. Many girls made a morning of the occasion, meeting with friends for breakfast or getting ready together before meeting at the float on Bayshore at 3:30 p.m.

Upon arriving, AHN seniors spent time taking pictures and enjoying time together before getting on the float at 4:00 p.m. After some delays, the float started moving around 6:00 p.m. As the float made its way along the parade route, seniors began tossing beads to families and children in the crowd, singing along to the music. Some seniors walked alongside the float to interact more closely with the crowd, while others stayed on the float, making it a memorable and fun experience for everyone.

“Getting ready with my friends in the morning and having lunch together before heading to the parade was a nice way to start the day,” said senior Lauren Williams. “We decided to walk in the parade, which was fun because we got up close and could interact with the kids. Seeing their excitement was really fun!”

“This year’s Gasparilla Parade was such a special moment for our senior class,” said Rowan Alexander, senior class president and the DJ on the AHN float. “Back in 8th grade, we missed out on riding the float because of COVID, so being able to finally experience this tradition as seniors felt so meaningful. It was an unforgettable way to come together, celebrate our time at AHN, and share in the excitement with the community.”
