AHN Annual Visiting Artist Ricard Pau-Llosa to present at Tampa Museum

On the evening of Wednesday, February 1, Academy students, families, and faculty will have the opportunity to experience the arts in a different, exciting way.

Academy’s annual visiting artist, Ricardo Pau-Llosa, will be at the Tampa Museum of Art, located at 120 West Gasparilla Plaza in downtown Tampa.  His presentation will interest aspiring artists and art fans alike. However, you do not have to be the next Leonardo DiVinci in order to attend.

Academy students and family members are welcome to enjoy the evening and learn more about the arts at this special  event. Valet parking and free admission will be available for Academy guests who are encourage to RSVP for this wonderful night by emailing [email protected]

The schedule for the night begins with a tour and reception from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.  A reception with the artist will precede the presentation by Ricardo Pau-Llosa. From 6:00 to 7:00, Ricardo Pau-Llosa himself will be giving his address and holding a Question and Answer session for the visitors.. The docent-led tours will include the new Romare Bearden exhibit.

Romare Howard Bearden was born in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Bearden’s outstanding talent includes various aspects of the artistic world. With his lifelong support of young and emerging artists, Romare Howard Bearden’s work has been published and featured in many collections, including the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. Bearden has received many honors and awards acknowledging his outstanding talent.

Born in Havana Cuba, speaker and artist Ricardo Pau-Llosa fled his home in 1960 with his parents, older sister, and maternal grandmother. His loved ones, with whom he escaped from Cuba, are found in the autobiographical poems of Pau-Llosa centered on exile and memories. Pau-Llosa’s writings have been published into poetry books and literary magazines, and shared anthologies.

Aside from his outstanding English achievements, Pau-Llosa has made great achievements in the art world as well. His works have been published in art books, exhibition catalogs, art magazines and encyclopedias. Also, Pau-Llosa has delivered many lectures on art from the Art Institute of Chicago to the National Library in Buenos Aires.

The Academy’s Fine Arts Department has organized the night, and encourages all students and faculty to attend the night with their families.

Mrs. Sharon West, Art Department Chair,  said, “I encourage all high students to attend this evening.  Ricardo Pau-Llosa is an engaging speaker, and his experiences and work will make for an interesting lecture that spans many disciplines. If anyone would care to see the catalogue from his Parallel Currents Show at Notre Dame, I have placed it on the main desk in the Media Center.”
