On September 28 2014, millions of teenage girls’ hearts were broken when Zayn Malik, member of the popular boy band, One Direction, announced  that he would be leaving the group in March to lead a “normal” life away from the spotlight. He made his decision public shortly after he was accused of cheating on his ex-fiancee Perrie Edwards. He also mentioned how life on the road had recently been difficult. He felt this would be the right time to create a new path for himself. Malik is confident, however, that he will remain close with his fellow band members. On the One Direction Facebook page, he stated, “I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.”

Fortunately, the rest of the 1D members, Harry Styles, Louis Tomilson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne are going to continue their music careers and are currently on tour for their latest album, Four. The band, however, has also recently announced that they will be taking a break in 2016 to relax and pursue various solo projects.

When freshman, Megan Scanlan was asked if she believed that the band was going to come back as a group after their one year hiatus, she replied, “I think that they will get together for maybe six months, and then break up again.” Although the singers have confirmed that they will be reunited the following year, fans are still worried that they might never see their favorite boy band on stage together again.

During a Good Morning America appearance, Louis Tomilson announced some big news. He and his twenty-three year old stylist, Briana Jungwirth are expecting their first child together. He recently stated “Obviously this is a very exciting time, so I’m buzzing.” Louis’ announcement came as a surprise to the rest of the One Direction members, but the news actually brought the band together even closer. He has received several letters from fans congratulating and supporting him.

One Direction has topped the music charts in several different genres and written countless hit singles since they came together in 2010. Hopefully as the band goes through changes, they will continue to generate success and be the international superstars everyone knows.
