Saturday Night Live will return October 1, and kick off its 42nd season with the addition of three new cast members. The late night comedy series introduces Mikey Day, Alex Moffat, and Melissa Villaseñor who all have previous experience in comedy. Their arrival comes amidst the departure of veterans Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah and Jon Rudnitsky. SNL, a coveted goal for all comedians, is one of the longest running shows on TV.

Junior Gillian Garcia states, “My parents and I always look forward to election time, because they impersonate the candidates and still make it creative.”

She has been watching for over three years and anticipates the new celebrities guests every time.

Melissa Villaseñor

Melissa Villaseñor has done stand-up and impressions for years, starting off in nightclubs and bars. Villaseñor is also the first female Latina to ever be on SNL, according to The Daily Beast.

She is bringing a lot to the table with her dead-on impressions and states when asked if she ever wanted to be on SNL, “I actually did audition when I was 21 and I always send them a tape every summer.”

The 28-year-old is best known for her America’s Got Talent audition that landed her in the finals.  Everyone anticipates what Villaseñor’s will bring to the SNL table.

Mikey Day

Day is the most experienced member being added to the line-up. According to Deadline he has been a lead written for SNL since 2013, and written for other comedies. He is the first producer that has been brought out into the spotlight. He has also had stared on comedy series Wild N’ Out, including guesting starring on the Lourne-Michael produced comedy series, Maya & Marty.

Jaclyn McCauley, a sophomore, declared, “My favorite part about SNL is they all look like they are having fun and I love it when they break character.”

Alex Moffat

Newcomer Alex Moffat used to perform stand up in iO Chicago and The Annoyance Theater. He has premiered in several comedy series including the Sherlock-inspired satire Ripper the Musical where he played Dr. Watson.

Senior Hannah Menendez is excited for the future season, commenting, “I’ll be excited for new characters no matter what because SNL will always be hilarious.”

The three regulars will join the cast, including Emmy winning stars Tiny Fey, Amy Poehler, and Kate McKinnon. SNL will welcome the new comedians on October 1 for season 42.
