Academy ladies reign on Jesuit Homecoming Court

Academy ladies reign on Jesuit Homecoming Court

An evening fit for royalty:  pom-poms rustled, and the band blared music in the stands. Alumni and current students alike joined together in a celebration of pride for their long-time brother school, Jesuit.  Out of all the games in the Jesuit football season, the homecoming game is without a doubt the most exciting game of the year for most Academy girls.

While the game on October 8, was far from close, with unbeaten Jesuit dominating Lennard High School with a final score of 42-7, the stadium was still full to the brim. Everything was blue, white, and full of spirit.

On this October evening, one question completely unrelated to football lingered in the minds of each spectator until half-time: out of the five Academy senior girls on the homecoming court,  who would be crowned Homecoming Queen:  Laura Giunta, Abby Lopez, Alex Mollanazar, Paige Schaefer, or Amanda Valdes?

Finally the waiting was over as the ladies of the court, who had been sitting decoratively on the sidelines,  walked onto the field. The announcer, after a very dramatic pause, declared that Paige Schaefer had won the coveted crown.

“It was such an honor,” states Paige “I even wore my crown at the gas station when I stopped there on my way home!”

Clad in long white gown, these five lovely ladies attended the dance the following evening along with many other Academy students who danced the night away at the Filipino Cultural Center … or at least until 11 o’ clock.
