Class of 2013 Ring Ceremony draws on tradition

Class of 2013 Ring Ceremony draws on tradition

After many weeks of careful preparation by teachers, administrators and students, the Junior Class Ring Ceremony on Thursday, January 19, was picture-perfect from start to finish. The weather was ideal, balmy but cool. The sophomores did not miss a beat in processing to form their arch of roses. The juniors were beautifully dressed and poised. Junior and sophomore teachers radiated their pride in their students’ participation in the morning’s event.

The Junior Ring Ceremony remains a long-standing tradition to which every Academy student looks forward.  Junior student Amanda Schifino, who opened the ceremony with a prayer and welcome,  said the week before, “The time has come so quickly, but I remember going to my first ring ceremony as a freshman. This ceremony is such a huge tradition and part of the Academy experience. I know the junior class along with myself are all really excited for the day we receive our rings.”

The beautiful ceremony centers on the distribution of the class rings to the junior girls. The uniquely designed class rings feature the meaningful Academy crest upon a black onyx stone in the center with the graduating year on the sides.

Much planning goes into this traditional event, including setting up the procession, ring orders, and the florist order for roses that form the arch the girls exit through. Taking the lead position on the planning aspect of the ceremony, junior class moderator Mrs. Betsy Suskauer covered all details from orders to the final touches to ensure the event ran smoothly.

Principal Mrs. Camille Jowanna commended all who made the day perfect. ” Mrs. Suskauer did a wonderful job! Special thanks also to Junior Homeroom teachers Mrs. Patricia Loesekann, Mrs. Sharon West, and Mrs. Micky Stagg for their assistance.  Additional thanks go out to Mrs. Lori Kearney, the sophomore homeroom teachers, and the sophomore class for the beautiful honor guard of roses. And finally, thank you to NHS and Student Council for their assistance during the ceremony.”
