The Tampa Bay Sun FC is Tampa Bay’s first professional women’s soccer team, part of the new USL Super League. The team’s creation marks a significant step in expanding women’s professional sports in a city known for its passionate soccer fanbase. With a focus on inclusivity, community involvement, and competitive success, the team has quickly gained local support, ready to see women’s soccer thrive in the region.

In its inaugural season, the Tampa Bay Sun is making a statement on the field. While navigating the challenges of a first season, including team cohesion and player development, the Sun has already delivered several promising performances. The team practices at state-of-the-art facilities, taking advantage of cutting-edge resources that mirror those used by their male counterparts in the area. Their home matches are hosted at Riverfront Stadium, which has quickly become a gathering place for dedicated fans and new supporters. As the team finds its rhythm, the coaching staff, led by experienced professionals, has focused on building a solid foundation for future success.

What makes the Tampa Bay Sun unique among Tampa’s professional sports teams is its immediate connection to young female athletes in the region. With the success of teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lightning, and Rays, the Sun stands out by offering a new kind of inspiration for young girls. These aspiring athletes now have a professional team to look up to, showing them that their dreams of playing at the highest level are not only possible but achievable right here in Tampa Bay.

“It’s so exciting to see women’s sports getting more attention in Tampa. As a high school soccer player, it makes me believe I can reach that level one day. It’s great to have a team here that shows girls like me that anything is possible,” said Kelsey Overstreet ’25.

Looking ahead, the Tampa Bay Sun has a packed schedule for the remainder of the season. With several key matchups against league rivals, the team is gearing up to make a strong push for the playoffs. The excitement around their upcoming home games is noticeable, with the local community continuing to rally behind the team. As it continues to grow, the Tampa Bay Sun is sure to leave an indelible mark on Tampa Bay’s sports culture, inspiring the next generation of female athletes.
