Open House draws record number of interested families

Balmy winds and sunny skies provided just the right ambiance for Academy’s annual Open House on Sunday, November 6, with a record number of guests in attendance for the day. Hard work and expert planning paid off for Admissions Director Mrs. Pam Doherty and Admissions Assistant Mrs. Doreen Zelen, who praised the involvement of the entire school community for devoting time on Sunday to welcome visitors and answer questions about life at Academy.

“We had the teachers in their classrooms and athletics across the bridge so everyone was where they would be on a regular school day,” said Mrs. Pam Doherty.

High school Ambassadors and  Delegates conducted tours of the campus, while club members put together displays that showcased the many activities available for students to join. Student Council members were present in full strength to teach cheers and extend a warm welcome to guests.

World Language students and faculty in the high school transformed the second-floor foyer into a mini-Epcot with food, music and costumes representing their language courses. Mathematics teachers and students showcased technology used in learning mathematics, while social studies and English departments featured talks by teachers and answers to questions by students.  Science teachers and students provided a tour and demonstration in the science wing. The Arts Department featured students demonstrating visual and performing arts.

Mrs. Doherty said, “Every interaction visitors had with the students was definitely a highlight. The increase in student and visitor interaction this year proved to be a positive experience.”
