National Honor Society members joined other Bay Area volunteers for the annual Muscular Distrophy Association (MDA) Walk on Saturday, February 9. MDA, a nonprofit organization that researches and treats those with muscular diseases,  relies on this annual event to draw attention to the needs for research and support.

Group chants and songs reverberated throughout the walls of Raymond James on the day of the walk. At the end of the day, walk participants raised $44,000 to help MDA patients and families, as well as MDA clinics and research.

Academy involvement in the walk this year  began when senior Meghan Wallace pitched the idea during a NHS meeting and set up the Academy team. The mile-long walk consists of two circle around the Raymond James Stadium.  During the day of the walk on February 9, volunteers met and participated in activities for an hour and a half prior to the beginning of the walk.

Academy NHS members hope that their numbers will increase in support of the MDA walk next year to raise donations and hope for prevention and treatment of muscular diseases.
