An expansion of magical proportions
The Harry Potter series is reaching out of the books on a whole new level. From being just a picture in the imaginations of its readers to hitting the big screen, the world of Harry Potter is finally taking its chance to come to life.
In the begining, when The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was first built, it only included Hogsmede and Hogwarts. Now more and more of the Harry Potter world is coming to life. Another huge expansion is being added to the Universal Orlando park.
The exciting hustle and bustle of Diagon Alley will be added featuring its best shops and restaurants, including the infamous Knocturn Alley. In 2014, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will expand over both Universal and the Islands of Adventure theme parks to connect Hogwarts to the well known King’s Cross Station in ‘London’ and visitors will have to go through Platform Nine and Three Quarters. You may ask, “How will they get connect the two together?” The answer is on the Hogwarts’ Express train. They are also replicating the London scenery and waterfront to look just like the one from the movie.
Diagon Alley is an iconic landmark in the Harry Potter series. In Diagon Alley, in the books and now in Orlando, there is Gringott’s Bank, Olivander’s: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C, The Leaky Cauldron, Borgin and Burkes, and Flourish and Botts. At the shops, you can buy souvenirs from the books such as wands and even Quidditch supplies. Also, a brand new thrill ride, featured in a location that any Harry Potter movie watcher has seen before, will be added in Gringotts Bank.
Sophomore Melissa Alvorado is one of the thousands of people anxiously waiting for the park to open. “I love Harry Potter World and the fact that everything being built is coming together makes it feel realer than before. I am most excited for the Gringotts ride and getting to ride the Hogwarts Express. It’s like we are part of the movie and are able to expirience a fraction of what they went through.”
The Orlando Informer has an online tour of Daigon Alley which shows you a digital version of Daigon Alley.
