2016 Presidential Election: The candidates thus far
Even though the 2016 Presidential Election seems far away, it is closer than you think. The time between now and then will fly by. A couple candidates have already declared that they have entered in the 2016 race. Each candidate runs off of a platform for their main goals they hope to establish during their presidency.
Democrats that have entered the race:
Hillary Clinton
- Hillary Clinton has a lot of casework and is well-recognized for her experience. Most Americans know her name. She made her announcement in a video advertisement about her campaign. You can see it here. AHN Freshman Mckenna Weathers says “I think it’s great that a woman is in the campaign. Although women have run in the past, I believe that Hillary has influenced many women in the US to be leaders”.
Republicans that have entered the race:
Rand Paul
- Paul is a relatable person, and a lot of people will be able to identify with him across the political spectrum. He entered the race through this announcement speech. AHN Senior Lizzie Farley says “I have never heard of him before. I am interested to see what he will do in this election”.
Marco Rubio
- Marco Rubio has done a lot of work with immigration. He has made himself well known to Cubans, who traditionally vote Republican. Rubio is a congressman for the state of Florida and has a lot going for him. He made his announcement in a public speech. Rubio has expanded his campaign to many social media websites. Freshman Audrey Diaz says she likes him “because is snapchat stories are entertaining”.
Ted Cruz
- Ted Cruz was the first person to officially declare that he is running for president in 2016. Born in Huston, Ted Cruz plans on being an outspoken candidate with strong opinions. He announced his entrance into the race via Twitter. You can look here for the announcement. AHN Senior Madison Matter says ” I will not vote for him because of his father’s legacy. I would not mind so much, but Ted Cruz often references his father, reminding me of the reasons why I do not like him”.
There are still plenty of people who are considering running in the Race. Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon is among these people. Only time will tell who is going to enter the race.
