T-minus 74 Days: The 2020 Presidential Election

August 20, 2020

T-minus 74 days, ladies and gents. T-minus 74 days.

Until the election, that is.

Have no fear; we have not yet reached such an apocalyptic epoch in which we ought to count our days. Our Earth continues to revolve about the gaseous sun at much the same rate it did centuries ago.

Now, that’s not to say I’d be surprised if gravity were to call it quits…

Apologies, I digress.

WHO’S WHO

For those who prefer to live beneath a rock (or two), the 2020 presidential election is scheduled to occur in 74 days’ time. Former VP Joe Biden will be repping the Democratic party with (to the surprise of none) POTUS Donald Trump commandeering the Republicans. As for their running mates, Biden and Trump have chosen California senator Kamala Harris and VPOTUS Mike Pence, respectively.

WHAT’S WHAT

Trump’s reelection campaign, “Keep America Great” (neé “Make America Great Again”), addresses our American economy, healthcare, and immigration control. In nixing both the “Affordable Care Act” (Obamacare) and “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” (DACA), Trump intends to lower tax rates, ensure the safety of local communities, and decrease unemployment.

“Left Panel: The fewer immigrants admitted into our country, the less competitive the workforce will be. Therefore, American unemployment rates will drop.
Right panel: ‘The Affordable Care Act’ (Obamacare) was instituted by President Barack Obama in 2011 to reduce both healthcare costs and uncompensated care. If citizens do not receive Obamacare, they will not have to pay its taxes.”

At present, Trump endeavors to secure a digital campaign advertisement (worth an estimated seven figures) whilst Biden & Co. prepare for the Democratic National Convention.

All for media “covfefe”, I suppose.

The aforementioned Democratic National Convention is a week-long conference held in tandem with the presidential election each quadrennial. Those in attendance formulate the party’s platform and nominate a democratic presidential and vice-presidential candidate.

Allysa Milano, Michelle Obama, Pete Buttigieg, Cory Booker, Amy Klobuchar, and Andrew Yang are several of the democratic A-listers to be “present” at this year’s event.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, the DNC has been moved online to avoid unnecessary health risks— hence Biden’s campaign pledge to host Zoom watch parties in all fifty states. Each of which will be narrated by said A-listers as both Biden and Harris will be otherwise occupied promoting their campaign.

Cognizant of a rampant pandemic and our depressed economy, Biden and Harris intend to “battle for the soul of the nation.” Their first order of business: “combat the coronavirus (COVID-19) and prepare for future global health threats.” In doing so, Biden and Harris aim to revive the economy, address climate change, and “build back better.”

Perhaps I am not the most credible of individuals to speak of the 2020 election as I am not yet of legal voting age, but I know we must be decisive in this election.

Vote with certainty. Vote with conviction. Vote with your future, my future, our future in mind.

Vote as if your life depends upon it.

T-minus 74 days, ladies and gents.

As usual, you did a fantastic job, Chloe. The election means everything this year (perhaps more than it ever has before). It would devastating for anyone to turn a blind eye to it. We ALL have a voice, and we ALL have to use it. Thank you for handling this topic with fierceness and intensity, for it deserved nothing less. I could not have said it better myself: “vote as if your life depends on it”.. because, for many of us, it does. You are awesome, Chloé! 😉
