The famous and lovable Matthew Perry unfortunately passed on October 28, 2023, due to an apparent drowning. Complete details have not yet been released, pending an autopsy.
Matthew Perry, 54, was a loved actor who played Chandler Bing on the sitcom “Friends.” The sarcastic role earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2002. He was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts and later lived in Ottawa, Canada. His first role was a small part in “240-Robert.” It’s certainly a loss for the entertainment industry and his fans. Perry has left a lasting impact through his work, especially with his iconic role played in “Friends”.
In 2022, Perry revealed that he had a drug issue that caused his colon to rupture leaving him, a dangerous medical condition with only a 2% survival rate. It’s been only one year since his miraculous recovery from that incident. Along with all the hospital trips and surgeries, Perry also admitted to going to rehab 15 times to try to address the problem.
On October 28, a 911 emergency call came through at 4:07 pm that Perry was in his hot tub and not breathing. The caller has not yet been identified. The Los Angeles County coroner has launched an investigation, but it will most likely take months for a true description of how the beloved actor passed. Although he had drug issues in the past, no drugs were found in his system or in the home at the time. Rumors of him drowning have not yet been confirmed, but he was definitely found in his hot tub, confirmed by law enforcement.
A tribute was posted for Perry Saturday night with many of the “Friends” cast commenting on the memories that he will leave behind. Warner Bros. Studios is also devastated by the loss, commenting “Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family. The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans.”
