Track and Field finish Regionals with record-breaking 4 x 800

Academy Track and Field finished another successful “run” at 2A Regional competition on April 22 at Titusville Astronaut High School. The 4×800 Relay placed second with a blitzing 9:40, breaking an Academy record for this event and qualifying them to compete in 2A State Track and Field Championships @ Showalter Field, Winter Park, on Saturday, April 30, at 1 pm.  

Athletic Director Kevin Vargas said, “The HS Track team raised the bar qualifying a number of athletes for next weekend’s State Championship Meet ”

In the 800-meter run Junior Amanda McWilliams placed fifth ( 2:29.33 2:25.63 2 4), and senior Katie Martin placed 11th (2:30.46 2:33.95 1).  Eighth-grader Colleen Doherty placed sixth in 1200-meter run, while seniors Lindsey Hahn (12:27.11 12:44.73) and Marisa Petrick (12:16.14 12:50.73).placed 11th and 12th in the 3200-meter run.

Sophomore Ryann McEnany placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries (15.94 15.55Q 1) and third in the finals (15.55 15.68 6). In the 300-meter hurdles, she placed seventh in prelims (49.08 48.69Q 1) and fifth in finals (48.69 47.56 4). She placed third in the long jump (16-11.75 17-01.75 5.22m 6). Featured in the March 9 TBO Online, Ryann is well on her way to making big tracks by her senior year.

Ninth-graders Becca Patterson, Ashley McWilliams, Natalie Hahn, and junior Amanda McWilliams placed 11th in the prelims 4 x 400-meter relay (11 Holy Names ‘A’ 4:17.84 4:20.87 1).  Martin, freshman Natalie Hahn, McWilliams, and Doherty placed second in the 4 x 800 relay (9:51.57 9:40.64 2 8).

In Class 2A, District 9 competition at Berkeley Prep on April 14, Academy finished second overall to Steinbrenner, with the assistance or two first-place wins in the Long Jump by McEnany (16’11.75”) and the 4×800 Relay of Katie Martine, Lindsey Hahn, Amanda McWilliams, and  Doherty (9:51.57).
