AHN Swim/Dive Team win Districts

AHN swimming and diving squad captured the title of 2A-District 8 champions this weekend, claiming the district title for the fifth consecutive season.

Individually, Senior Tori Litschgi led the way earning individual District titles in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle,  as well as helping her 200 and 400 yard freestyle relay teams to District titles.  In the 50 yard freestyle, sophomore Konner Brewer, junior Clare Fleming, and freshman Olivia Kirkpatrick, respectively took the following three places after Litschgi.  Fleming and Brewer also finished second and third, in the 100 yard freestyle as well.  Sophomore Alex Nuyianes also blew away the competition with victories in both the 200 yard individual medley and the 500 yard freestyle.  Overall, AHN dominated the pool with several victories and a total score almost 300 points above the runner-up Sickles High School.

Swimming senior Alex Diaz recounts her last district meet and the team’s victory.  “I am so proud of our team.  Everyone posted great times and placed well.  I can’t wait for Regions, where everyone should improve even more.”

After the Jaguars received their trophy, they joined the Jesuit Tigers, also victorious, by traditionally jumping into the pool with the trophies.  Bright House Sports Network covered the meet and the victory.

The Jaguars are poised for a run at the Region 3 title with 16 members qualifying for competition at the North Shore complex in St. Petersburg this Saturday.  Prelims begin at 9 am with finals scheduled for 5 pm.

Athletic Director Kevin Vargas shared the good news with the Academy community in an email early Monday morning.  “Congrats to head coach Bill Shaffer, his staff and our talented swimmers for an outstanding season.”
