Academy Swim Team places fourth at States 2A and silvers in 200 Free Relay

On Thursday, November 8, the Academy Swim Team finished fourth at the 2A State meet in Orlando in a fast-paced competition.

Five school records were broken in what Athletic Director Kevin Vargas said ” turned out to be one of the fastest meets in quite some time. ”

The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Konner Brewer, Olivia Kirkpatrick, Tori Litschgi, and Clare Fleming finished with the silver medal, falling .02 short of a third straight championship win in this event at States.  This relay team swam the fastest in school history, breaking the school record they set last year by over a second and qualifying for All-American Consideration.  The 400 yard freestyle relay placed fourth in finals and also set a school record, along with Fleming in the 50 Freestyle, and Shae Timmons in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breastroke events.

Athletic Director Vargas did not hold back his praise for the talented group of girls. “Quite a bit to be proud of tonight in Orlando!”

Senior Litschgi is sad the season is over, but is extremely proud of her team’s success.  “At States, our team accomplished many of our goals.  We shattered five school records and had a relay qualify for All-American Consideration.  All three of our relays medaled in the top eight.  We had some great swims and memories at the Orlando YMCA.  I will extremely miss being a part of a team with such dedication, motivation, support, and talent next year.”
