Jaguars defeat Arcadia DeSoto 5-3 in 4A-Region 3 game

Senior Alexandra Gerecke helped Academy softball teammates win their first regional game Thursday evening, April 25, at home.  Gerecke pitched another complete game with two strike-outs again Desoto County in 4A-3 competition.

Sophomore Anya Muyres led the way offensively for AHN, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Muyres’ RBI was the only recorded one for the night. The Jaguars strung together hits throughout the game but left runners on base when they needed runs the most.

Desoto led with 1-0 through the end of the second  inning.  The Jaguars came out hot in the third inning, scoring all five of its runs, aided by three Desoto County errors. Academy bunted to squeeze their runners in and took the lead that remained for the rest of the game.

Desoto came back in the fourth inning with two more runs and posed to be a threat with the bases loaded. The Academy defense stopped Desoto’s threat with key plays, saving the tide from turning.

Senior pitcher Alexandra Gerecke is pleased with the team’s performance and is glad her defense stood behind her making the plays that count. “When our team makes plays and scores runs, we have a good chance to win. As long as we do that on Tuesday, we will compete well and keep the game close.”

The Jaguars face Mulberry next Tuesday evening, April 30.
