Track begins the season with two wins
The Academy track team began the season with a solid win on Tuesday, February 18. Defeating Tampa Catholic with a score of 85 To 45.
Senior Natalie Hahn, her first week running due to basketball, surprisingly met her goal for the two mile. She finished the eight laps in just under thirteen minutes. Freshman Lizzie Dolan was also very happy with her race. After running the 800m she was “very excited about her time” and looks forward to dropping her times again.
The team carried this momentum to the invitational meet this Saturday at Wharton High School. Going into the meet the coaches were not sure what to expect at the meet as Wharton’s track is new.
As always Academy rises to the challenge. The 4×800 Meter Relay team placed 3 with a time of 10:19.34.
Gillian Anthony placed 6 in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.27, placed 5 in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:02.62, and placed 9 in the high jump with a jump of 4-6.
Colleen Doherty placed 10 in the 1,600 Meter Run with a time of 5:46.43 and placed in 6 in the 3,200 Meter Run with a time of 12:56.23. Claire Snyder placed 4 in the 1,600 Meter Run with a time of 5:32.09 and 2 in the 3,200 Meter Run with a time of 12:21.30.
Dolan placed 16 in the 1,600 Meter Run with a personal record of 6:10.80. Hahn placed 4 in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:29.70. Junior Siobhan Lynch jumped 15-5 in long jump, placing 4.
On Tuesday, February 25, the track team competed for the third time in a week. Running against Berkeley, King, and Hillsborough High School, Academy worked together for another win. With a final score of 75 to 69 to 54 to 54, Academy came in first, Hillsborough in second, and King and Berkeley tied for last.
Senior Melissa Manzier achieved her goal for 600 Meter run and ran under six minutes.
With only six more weeks left until districts the academy track team is working harder than ever to improve their times.
