Preview to Spike and Splash 2022

September 15, 2022

The annual AHN Spike and Splash is coming up on Wednesday, September 28. Spike and Splash is a fundraiser that Academy holds every year that consists of a swim and dive meet and also volleyball games. This event is held every year at Academy in order to raise awareness for breast and pediatric cancer.

Lauren Brown (‘23) said, “Spike and Splash is such an amazing event because we get to highlight some of the Academy’s best sports teams, while also raising money and awareness for cancer. As a member of Golden Girls and now a co-president of the club with Lily Castellano, it’s our goal to make sure that the event runs smoothly and that every member attending has fun! We’ve been planning for the event every Tuesday during club meetings, and we mainly prepare and plan for ways to encourage Academy students to attend, whether that be decorations, music, photo-ops, paint-up stations, and so much more! As the spirit club, we want our entire student body to attend the event all dressed up in pink and yellow to help support our sports teams and to raise the money to go towards cancer research. Spike and Splash is such a tradition here at the Academy, so we want to make sure that the event lives up to past years, and hopefully exceeds all expectations!”

The profits that come from the tickets and the 2022 Spike and Splash t-shirts will be divided and donated towards breast and pediatric cancer research. Sales for the fifteen-dollar shirts ended Friday, September 9, and students who purchased them will be able to wear them to school on the day of the event. The Academy Dad’s club will be selling food and refreshments at the event. Similarly to the tickets and shirts, the proceeds from the food and drinks will be donated to cancer research.

Athletic Director Kevin Vargas said, “It’s an opportunity for us to join together for two great causes and give back while celebrating our school spirit and acknowledging the fact that there are greater needs out there in the community that we can hopefully play a part in helping.”

Spike and Splash includes three consecutive events in this order: JV Volleyball vs. Berkeley Prep at 5 pm, Varsity Volleyball vs. Berkeley Prep at 6:30 pm, and Swim and Dive vs. Plant at 6:30 pm.
