AHN shows up strong for Santa Maria Mission on Service Day

One of the largest service groups were the girls who served at Santa Maria Mission, sponsored by St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Cleaning walls, sweeping, stocking and serving lunch…….

And so went a busy morning for Academy students who volunteered at Santa Maria Mission, sponsored by St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Tampa.  Moderated by Mr. Jose Ruano and Mr. Jack Mullarkey, the girls put in a good day’s labor and came home happy with what they had accomplished and more empathetic to the needs of the homeless and hungry.

Mrs. Katie Holland, Assistant Campus Minister, organized the event, which included booking busses to transport over 400 volunteers to serve throughout Tampa Bay.  After returning to school and eating their lunches, students and faculty listened to heart-rending stories from former homeless people who now represent important homeless service organizations throughout the area.

Overall, Academy students and faculty volunteeered at the following service organizations:

  • A Brighter Community
  • Metropolitan Ministries
  • John Knox Village
  • Bright Beginnings
  • Horses for Handicapped
  • Everyday Blessings
  • Feeding America
