Over 200 AHN students were inducted into 14 different Honor Societies this spring.  For the first time, Academy combined all these inductions into one event to work around the schedules of busy Academy girls. Beginning at 5:00 pm on Thursday,  April 11,   inductees, along with their families, gathered in the Brady Center for this tradition-setting ceremony.

In addition,  Ms. Maureen Kearney, social studies teacher at Academy for 37 years,  was inducted as the first honorary member of Rho Kappa,  social studies honor society. Although Miss Kearney retired last year, Academy  girls will always remember and admire her for her understanding and knowledge of World History, enthusiasm for learning,  and her tireless dedication to her students,  SNJM core values, and Faith Children’s Home.

After staying after school to practice on Wednesday, April 10, Academy girls were confident that the Induction Ceremony would run smoothly. The speakers for the event perfected their parts while inductees rehearsed their entrance.

During the event, representatives of each society gave a speech and lead the inductees in an oath. Both foreign language honor societies, French and Spanish, wowed the crowed with their phenomenal oratory skills in their respective languages. Following club inductions, each inductee was called up to receive an envelope with her certificates from High School Principa Mrs. Camille Jowanna. After  singing the Alma Mater, honor club members enjoyed a reception of cake and punch with their families and friends.

This ceremony proved to be very successful despite initial doubts. Students  like Junior Samantha Vargas were pleasantly surprised with the turn out of Thursday’s event. “At first I was afraid that the ceremony would be too extensive since over 200 girls were being inducted into societies. It turned out to be very nice though, and I enjoyed being recognized for all my hard work and dedication.”
