Cara Millburg to attend 2011 Youth World Day in Madrid

Achona staffer Cara Millburg will travel to Madrid, Spain, to participate in 2011World Youth Day.  Accompanying her will be Salesian sisters from Villa Madonna in Tampa, as well as other young people representing the Diocese of St. Petersburg. Achona will publish Cara’s videos, slides and interviews after her return to AHN on August 22.

The worldwide event signifies 26 years of young people coming together in prayer, song and faith to share their belief in the teachings of Christ and their desire to spread His message for peace and social justice throughout the world.

“WYD participants, organized by language groups, will have catechesis session with bishops from all over the world. The sessions will take place in churches, schools, auditoriums and sports centers of Madrid,”  reports the WYD website.

Multi-media events on Wednesday, April 17, include the world premiere of Cristiada, a film based on a real-life story from the Mexican Cristero Wars which took place during the decade of the 1920s. “Cristiada features different people who, from their varying perspectives and characters, engage in a struggle to defend their religion.”  The film stars Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria, Catalina Sandino, Rubén Blades, Nestor Carbonell, Oscar Isaac, Mauricio Curi, Eduardo Verastegui, and Santiago Cabrera with guest appearances by Peter O’Toole, Bruce Greenwood, and Bruce McGill.”
