Student Council reps prep Academy for Formal

During long home room on Wednesday, November 30, Academy students slipped down to the Brady Center for a short presentation by Student Council on the protocol of appropriate attire, dancing, and navigating the receiving line at Christmas Formal.  From finding a date to conducting oneself on the dance floor, Academy’s Student Council left no stone unturned.

While much of the information was old hat for seniors, underclasswomen and upperclasswomen alike chuckled at the all too familiar parody of the jitters before Formal. Senior Tori Foody did an excellent job of portraying a nervous Academy student mustering the courage to ask a Jesuit boy, played by Sarah Davis, to accompany her to the dance.

As a nod to the technology that serves as a new forum for teen interactions, seniors Aubrey McGuire and Domonique Hogan pretended to be Jesuit boys communicating with Academy girls over Facebook messages. However, the funniest moment came during the Council’s enactment of the receiving line, in which Academy students present their dates to the faculty.

Sophomore Siobahn Plummer in her role as Mr. Mullarkey stole the show when she mimicked Mr. Mullarkey’s trademark question “Would any of you like some chocolate?” The skit also made sure to remind students to save room for the Holy Spirit when they hit the dance floor with their dates.

Sarah Davis led the closing act, a short song summarizing the rules of Formal. Thanks to Student Council’s timely presentation, there’s no way Academy students will make a single faux pauxs on the night of December 16.
