Wild West Wednesday 'Best Dressed' Awards included points for faculty competition

Golden Girls, the sponsors of Spirit Week, have added another competition group this year.  Teachers are now eligible to compete for points against grades 9-12 in both the dress-up competition and in the pep rally on Friday.

Winners of the “Best Dressed” awards for Wild West Wednesday included:

First Place: Cecily Curtis (10th grade)

Second Place: Mrs. DiPierro (math teacher)

Third Place: Merline Lamour (9th grade)

Fourth Place: Jessica Jurado (10th grade)

The morning began with the National Poetry Out loud Competition between the selected finalists from each grade. Each competitor recited two poems in front of AHN faculty, students, and guests judges to find out who would advance to the state round, taking place in Tallahassee on March 9.

After tallying all of the points, the judges made their final decisions. Senior Arlyn Barlaan clinched first place and will continue to compete in Florida’s capital in the next few months. Second place went to junior Emily Rodriguez, followed by sophomore Ashlyn Bradshaw, and in fourth place, freshman Kelsea Henry.

Throughout the day, the entire AHN high school unleashed their creative sides, producing their own poetic interpretations of the theme, Wild West Wednesday. From the “Kanye West” accoutrements to “Westside Story” accessories, students put their own spin on the Wild West theme.

Each team fights for first place during Spirit Week. Now, since teachers have been added to the contest, the competition heats up. Who will win?
