Wingardium leviosa! – a new J.K. Rowling movie is flying our way

“The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well.” While reading the very last lines of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the realization hit me that these were the FINAL words J.K. Rowling wrote in her marvelous and magical series that is Harry Potter. It made me want to cry and immediately sit J.K. Rowling down, forcing her to write more amazing books following Harry, Ron and Hermione. But a part of me knew that it was better to let the series lie and enjoy the happy ending we were so fortunately given. Though it has been six years since the last book’s release, I still find myself dreaming about the whole world of Mr. Potter and all the secrets it holds. Have you? Well if you have you’re in luck. Accio new J.K Rowling movie!

Warner Brothers recently announced the fantastic news that none other than J.K. Rowling would be writing a series of films based on the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Rowling wrote the textbook in 2001 along with Quiddich Through the Ages, both published in aid of Comic Relief (a major charity based in the UK which strives to create a just world free from poverty). Unlike the previous Potter movies where a director adapts the book into cinematic magic as they see fit, Warner Brothers finally convinced Rowling herself to take her ideas for the movie and make them come to life. J.K. Rowling explained, “As I considered Warner’s proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn’t dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros.” If the ideas came from the author herself, they must be amazing!

The films will take place seventy years prior to Harry Potter’s time and will follow the character, textbook author Newt Scamander. “Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” Rowling said, opening up about the new film. “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.” She added, “I always said that I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about, and this is it.” However, those new to the Harry Potter universe should be able to follow the storyline without a problem.

Still think Rowling will incorporate the old Harry Potter actors? When asked about his first thoughts on the new movie series, Daniel Radcliffe joked, “I first thought, ‘Thanks Jo, I’m going to have to answer tons of questions about this now‘.” He added, “I’m sure they’re going to have a great time [making it]. I’m sure most people are really excited about it. Needless to say I wouldn’t be involved in it and I guess none of the others [from the Harry Potter films] will be, but I know absolutely nothing about it.”
