Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” lassos up the charts

When Beyoncé announced her new album, fans were surprised to hear that it would be a country album. “Texas Hold ‘Em” was the first song released weeks before the album, and that one song excited fans for what more country music Beyoncé had in store, as it went viral and hit number 1 on the Billboard Top 100. “Cowboy Carter” taps into Beyoncé’s country upbringing, as she is from Houston.

The album takes an approach that is very different from “Renaissance”, as “Cowboy Carter” highlights the Black history and influence behind country music. This makes the album even more special because it is not so often that you hear country music sung by black artists. She has featured many renowned artists on her album, including Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Post Malone and more.

One of her featured artists is Shaboozey, a country and rap artist from Virginia. He was featured on the songs “Spaghetti” and “Sweet Honey Buckin”. Because of his work on the album, his popularity skyrocketed as those songs were fan favorites.

One of the biggest songs on the album is Beyoncé’s cover of Dolly Parton’s classic hit, “Jolene.” Beyonce’s rendition of the song offers a fresh spin on the original, with a modern twist that highlights her vocal range and versatility. The track features a mix of acoustic and electronic instruments, creating a dynamic sound that is both familiar and new. Beyoncé’s interpretation of “Jolene” showcases her ability to take a beloved song and make it her own, proving her power as an artist.

Ten days before the release of  “Cowboy Carter”, Beyoncé posted on Instagram the album cover with a few words for her fans. She stated in the caption of a recent Instagram post, “I feel honored to be the first Black woman with the number one single on the Hot Country Songs chart. That would not have happened without the outpouring of support from each and every one of you. My hope is that years from now, the mention of an artist’s race, as it relates to releasing genres of music, will be irrelevant.” She goes on to talk about how this is not just a “country album,” but it’s a Beyoncé album as it is act ii, a continuation of Renaissance which was act i.
