Spirit Week couldn’t have started better, with a morning Mass and princess crowns making a perfect day.
To begin Catholic Schools Week in the right “spirit,” the Academy High School community gathered in the Brady Center to celebrate the “Progress of Peoples” Mass on Monday.
Father spoke in his homily about the power of the Holy Spirit and the gifts gained after confirmation. He expressed that it is our job to “call upon our gifts” and evoke the Holy Spirit to heal others. We are all susceptible to healing and we all need to be healed in some way. The overall message Academy girls received was to “bring Jesus to others and call upon the Holy Spirit” to achieve healing and our gifts.
The mass ended with the lively song, “Go Make a Difference,” which began the Catholic Schools Week with excitement. Principal Mrs. Camille Jowanna closed the Mass with a reiteration of the week’s numerous activities that inspired the entire student body to have an awesome Spirit Week.
The seniors honored their princess Ariel by bringing the sea into the lounge. Blow-up fish hung from the ceiling, and bathing suits decorated the wall. They also had a kiddie pool filled with fish!
Juniors showed love for Cinderella by decorating their lockers with streamers and Cinderella table cloths. Some students wore their hair Cinderella style complete with pearls!
Sophomores went all out in showing their spirit for Jasmine. The locker room was transformed into an Indian Palace, complete with a life-size Jasmine, the jewels of India and even a magic lamp. Streamers and drapes completed the look.
The freshmen wore Chinese-inspired dress and hair styles. Almost the whole grade pulled off the chopstick bun look. They showed Chinese culture by hanging lanterns around their lockers.
All in all Spirit Week is off to a great start.
