New York street trends come to Academy

Over the winter break, Achona editors Clare Davis and Mary Patterson visited one of the most famous fashion capitols of the world, New York City. Although they made the trip separately, they both experienced the influences of New York street-fashion and came up with a list of prominent trends:

Shoes border on the practical side with bright or neutral colors:

  • below the knee leather boots: biker, riding, combat, ankle
  • light brown, deep tan, black
  • paired with tights and knee high socks
  • thick, clunky wedge heels
  • bright colors paired with neutral clothing

Dresses and separates:

  • dresses paired with bright colored tights and unique patterns
  • long, flowy skirts and dresses
  • bright colored denim jeans in red, blue and green

Coats/ Jackets:

  • Bright-colored peacoats and trench coats in red, white, yellow or green
  • Fitted  leather jackets in tan or black.

Hats:  neutral colors, including beanie hats

Purses:

  • small satchels
  • bright reds
  • neutrals
  • Longchamp bags

Hair: messy buns, braids, pony tails

Makeup:

  • simple, natural makeup paired with red lipstick
  • natural makeup with dramatic cat-eye liner

Accessories

  • Loop scarves in bright colors of pink, blue, green
  • Vintage-inspired sunglasses
  • Long necklaces
  • Leather gloves in black, white, and tan
