With Thanksgiving less than a month away, Academy High School girls have been bringing in food donations for Thanksgiving at Faith Children’s Home. The cans and goods, assigned as categories to each homeroom and stored in the office of Assistant Principal Jack Mullarkey, represent the love and support that Academy holds for this very special group of young people.

Faith Children’s Home is both a school and home for boy and girls whose parents have been deemed unsuitable by the courts. The home receives no federal or state funding, running solely on generous donations. Currently, there are 78 children varying in ages up to eighteen. Academy club members of FCH meet at least one Tuesday of every month participating in holiday crafts with the girls of the home.

Ms. Maureen Kearney, former social studies teacher and beloved leader of Faith Children’s Home Outclub, shared her gratitude for the contributions over the years from the Academy family. “Thank you for your help! We have been helping this Home at Thanksgiving for twenty-nine years.”

During the holidays, Academy students and faculty also support Faith Children’s home through Christmas angels. Residents at the home make a “wish list” for Christmas ranging from a jar of pickles, to a mini fan, and to underwear. They receive the bag of presents from Santa Clause at the club’s annual Christmas Party with cookies and musical performances by the Academy Quarter Notes.

Club president Alexandra Diaz commented on the Christmas event. “It is impossible to describe the look of surprise and happiness the kid’s faces show when you hand them a bag of toys. We just need to make sure that everyone brings in the toys for the angels they took, to fill the bags.”

Faith Children’s Home donations provide Academy families the opportunity to support an outstanding group of young people who deserve everything they receive.
