Meet the new Student Council Officers!

As the 2016 campaign season begins for the presidential office so do officer elections here at Academy. For three days (April 15th- 17th) candidates ran personalized campaigns.

 

 

Although she ran unopposed, Jayne McLaughlin incorporated popular culture in to her campaign posters.

Earlier in the week I got the chance to sit down with next years officers and talk a little bit more about their involvement in council.

Jayne McLaughlin(Student Body President)

R: How long have you been on Student Council?

JM: I have been on council for 3 years.
R: What other positions have you held?

JM: I have also servers as a freshman representative, a sophomore representative, and corresponding secretary.

R: What made you want to take on this position?
JM: I always admired the presidents before me and how they can handle so many responsibilities. I love being a leader and having people look up to me.
R: What are your plans for next year?

JM: Next year I plan to create a few new student council events (confidential), and just ensure that every event we host is fun and memorable.
R: What is something about the position that girls may not know?

JM: I’ll have to lead every single meeting and choose people I think would be best in best in each committee for the upcoming year.
R: Tell me a little bit more about your involvement at in student government outside of AHN.

JM: Outside of student council, I have attended 6 student council conferences where I have learned new leadership skills, made new friends, and got creative ideas I was able to bring back to AHN. Our student council serves as Florida’s district 4 Secretary as well.

 

Allison Whele (Treasurer)

R: How long have you been on council?
AW: I have been on council for 2 years

R:What other positions have you held?
AW: I have also served as a Homeroom representative.

R: What made you want to take on this position?

AW: I Wanted to become treasurer because I wanted to become more involved in council and I am organized and feel I will do the job well.

R: What made you want to take on this position?

AW: Next year I plan on working closely with the school, both administration and students, and the rest of council to make the year as best as possible.

R:What is something about the position that girls may not know?
AW: Something about the position that other girls may not know is that it is a lot more work than it seems.

R: Tell me a little bit more about your involvement at in student government outside of AHN.

AW: A little more about me is that I have been in key club for 2 years, pro life club, and best buddies. I also have been on dance team for two years and like to volunteer at MOSI and Horses for Handicapped.

 

Jenna Wiley (corresponding secretary)

R: How long have you been on council?

JW:I have been on Council for a year

R:What other positions have you held?

JW: I served as a homeroom rep.

R: What made you want to take on this position?

JW:I was interested I’m the Secretary position because it has a bit more responsibility and I wanted to learn something new.

R:What is something about the position that girls may not know?

JW: For the next year I plan to attend more rallies and become very involved. This summer I’m attending SFLTC which I’m very excited about.

R: Tell me a little bit more about your involvement at in student government outside of AHN..

JW:The secretary position means that I take minutes at every meeting and make notes about what we talked about. I also will be in charge of the event book, which we recently won a gold medal for.
R: Tell me a little bit more about your involvement at in student government outside of AHN.
JW: I joined council because I wanted to be involved around school, and my sister had never done it. Being the youngest one, I often follow in my sisters’ footsteps and never really pave my own path. Student council is my way of branching out.

 

Remi Storch (Vice President)

R: How long have you been on council?

RS: I’ve been on council since freshman year
R: What other positions have you held?

RS: I have been class representative.
R: What made you want to take on this position?

RS: Being VP is something that I have wanted to do since freshman year and am really excited to take on new responsibilities!

R: What are your plans for next year?

RS: I want to make next year the best year yet with new creative ideas!!
R:What is something about the position that girls may not know?

RS: The VP orders all of the sweatshirts!
R: Tell me a little bit more about your involvement at in student government outside of AHN.

RS: I attended HOBY the summer going into Junior year and have helped plan and set up for many of our Student Council events throughout my years at AHN!

 

Grace Neal ( Corresponding secretary)

R: How long have you been on council?

GN:I have been on council for 2 years now

R: What other positions have you held?

GN: I have served as a rep, freshman year for Mr.Slosh and this year for Ms.Fillocco.

R: What made you want to take on this position?

GN: I wanted to take this position on because I wanted to take my place on council further and become much more involved in a leader position.

R: What are your plans for next year?

GN: Next year I am really excited to start going to more of the rallies and this summer I am going to SFLTC which I’m really excited to hear more ideas and get to meet people from other schools and bring back ideas to council.

R:What is something about the position that girls may not know?

GN: When people asked what the secretaries do who weren’t on council they didn’t know all about FASC and bringing the book of all the events to get judged and receive medals for.

R: Tell me a little bit more about your involvement at in student government outside of AHN.

GN: On council this year I have been on multiple committees, helped out with Jagball and Winter Formal, and as a rep I keep my class up to date and work with the other reps to do the same. I wish I did more outside of school so I am hoping in the future I can get more involved in out of school activities but so far in school I am on a beta club, faith children’s home, and national art honor society which I really like because art is something I really enjoy and I hope I can do more with it in my future.
