As Valentines Day approaches, it has become a popular topic of conversation at the Academy of the Holy Names. Many of the girls are in relationships, which makes the holiday even more special and meaningful for them.

Some Academy girls have been in relationships for years, while others have been dating for only a few months, and some are single. Regardless of relationship status, Valentine’s Day is a day to show appreciation for those who you love and have supported you through everything.

Adriana Lugo (26’) says, “We have been dating for three years. Our anniversary is February 4, 2023. We are celebrating that on Wednesday and we are also celebrating Valentines on Valentines Day.”

Since being at an all girls school, it can be hard to find someone special. Relationship stories come in all different packages. Some meet at functions and gatherings while other may meet over the phone through apps like Snapchat or Instagram. It does not matter how you meet your person, but what matters is if they align with your values, morals, and beliefs. Finding your person may feel like a challenge, but when the time is right, the right one will come around.

Katelyn Papy (27’) says, “I met my boyfriend at a summer camp in Georgia two years ago. We love to watch movies, bake, and go to youth groups together. He is planning our Valentine’s Day and I cannot wait.”

Papy and her boyfriend have an amazing story as to how they began their relationship. After meeting at a church camp in Georgia called Covecrest in 2023, two years had gone by and right before attending the church camp again, her boyfriend, Evan, asked her to be his girlfriend. Katelyn had always been hesitant because she did not want her friendship to be ruined and things be weird, but she looked past that and realized that she loves him and chooses him everyday. Now Katelyn and Even are seven months strong.

Valentine’s Day plans look different for everyone, whether in a relationship or not. What many of the Academy girls have shown is that quality time together is what matters most to them. It does not matter what they are doing, they cherish the memories that they made with each other. An overall consensus shows that it is less about the gifts, but more about the quality time and feeling appreciated.

Ainsley Kurrack (26’) says, “My boyfriend, Max, and I have been dating for eight months now. We’re going to be spending our Valentine’s Day together doing simple but meaningful things. We plan to cook a homemade dinner and enjoy it together.”

For most couples it seems that keeping it simple is the trend of this Valentine’s Day. Cooking meals together and conversations filled with laughter and love are what matter most. This simple but sweet act shows that love does not have to be extravagant and over the top to be special, but it is the quality time spent with each other, even the simple things.

Even for those who are single, Valentine’s Day is a special day that is filled with love. Whether it comes from family members, friends, teachers, or a genuine relationship, everyone is loved, and love can especially be found all around the Academy.
