Will One Direction infection become the next Bieber fever?

Watch out, America! One Direction plans to capture the hearts of pre-teen and teenage girls across the States this spring when they tour with another boy band, Big Time Rush. Currently, the British-Irish boy band may be unfamiliar to most Americans, but they have already accumulated huge fan bases in other parts of the world, including Australia, Brazil, and most of Europe.

One Direction began its hot career when the group finished as a finalist on the British X Factor in 2010. Originally, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik auditioned separately, but were put into a group when each individual did not qualify for the “Boys” category. Nicole Scherzinger, one of the competition’s judge-mentors, suggested that the quintet form a group, propelling them into instant stardom.

Since the end of X Factor, One Direction has already released a debut album, “Up All Night,” as well as three singles. The music video of their first single, “What Makes You Beautiful,” has gained over 50 million views on YouTube. In addition to singing, the boys will show off their acting talents on an upcoming episode of Nickelodeon’s hit show iCarly. With all this talent, One Direction has only one way to go: up.
