With Halloween right around the corner, many people wonder what they should wear. When deciding what to wear for Halloween, it is crucial to consider factors like comfort, trends, and accessibility.
Comfort:
On October 31 in Tampa, the weather is expected to be relatively mild, with a low of 68 degrees and a high of 87 degrees. The sun will set around 6:44 p.m., so the temperature will start to cool down. Considering the temperature when deciding on a Halloween costume is very important, as the costume will cause extreme discomfort if it is too hot or cold that day. Mariana Guzman (’25) said, “I decided to be a pirate for Halloween because there are a lot of different ways I can style my costume that I will be comfortable wearing and can be altered depending on the weather.”
Trends:
Some trending costumes for this year are superheroes and villains, fictional characters from children’s books, fairies, mermaids, pirates, Disney princesses, and cheetahs. When picking a Halloween costume, being mindful of whether having the same as many other people is a personal no-go can be essential. Some creative categories for a Halloween costume are horror costumes, specific characters from a favorite TV show or movie, or humorous costumes. Katie Pearson (’25) said, “I considered what was trending when I decided to be Little Bo Peep because I was inspired by a lot of people I saw online that did a similar costume.”
Accessibility:
One last thing to think about when picking a Halloween costume is accessibility. Will there be parts of the costume that will have to be DIYed? Are any parts of the costume going to be specifically ordered to make the costume make sense, and will they be delivered on time? If the costume is a couple or group costume, will everyone’s costume be ready so all the costumes are obviously connected? Mady Odom (’27) and Madeline Foley (’27) explained, “We dressed both dressed up as sailors because it seemed like a super easy costume that we could all do together, we were able to order our costumes on Amazon and they got delivered quickly.”
Overall, making Halloween costumes can be a lot of work, but expressing personal creativity and self-expression is definitely worth the extra work.
