Chick-fil-A comes out with a new menu item for the first time in 9 years. The new Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich has people super curious. The Georgia-based chicken chain took their classic chicken sandwich and topped it with pimento cheese, honey, and jalapeños. It’s the first time Chick-fil-A has made a seasonal variation of their iconic sandwich, and it comes in both classic and spicy variants. As with anything, it’s hard to compete with an original, but many people have adapted a new love for Chick-fil-A while others continue to be a fan of the original chicken sandwich Chick-fil-A offers.

Ava O’brien, a Senior at Academy, says, “I really enjoy the original chicken sandwich so I had high expectations when it came to the new sandwich. I hate to say it, it didn’t live up to my expectations. The flavors were all a little much for me, between the sweet honey, the spicy jalapeños, and the creamy cheese. I wasn’t a big fan.” Many others agreed with her, stating the sandwich was too complex for Chick-fil-A. In trying to do so much, all the different components get lost. While every topping is stupendous on its own, the pimento cheese, especially the whole, is not greater than the pieces on their own.
Academy does have some big Chick-fil-A fans. Mary Stewart Mcgough (‘24) says “I’m obsessed with the new sandwich, I was getting bored of the original so I’m excited they were able to bring something new to the table we don’t see often. I thought the flavors blended very well while it created a sweet and savory meal on the go.”

Arguments across the United States have been saying that the original chicken sandwich is one of the best fast food chicken sandwiches because of its simplicity. The natural juice and flavor fullness of the chicken itself is what draws people to Chick-fil-A. The strong flavors of the pimento and honey make it seem more like a pimento sandwich instead of a chicken sandwich, says True New Jersey. Although the Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich isn’t the most loved sandwich Chick-fil-A has produced. Chick-fil-A is continuing to improve, to please all customers with more improved menu items.
