Boys, boys, boys… Can’t live with them and can’t live without them. Perk of going to an all girl’s school is that you don’t have to deal with all the annoying quirks and habits that boys have. However, because of that, it makes it difficult to understand the confusing creature that are boys. From all perspective: boys, girls, siblings, and parents from different schools all had a different perspective on the questions that were asked. Girls, all your questions are now answered.

Why do boys wear underwear under bathing suits?

Boys… don’t wear pattern boxers under your already short bathing suits; we don’t want to see what pattern is on your boxers.

BOY VS. GIRL

Tyler Doyle//Osceola High School Senior: “I don’t know about the underwear thing really, I only do it if I’m wearing like spandex style underwear and don’t feel like changing.”

Alexis Markines//AHN Senior: “I guess boys wear underwear under bathing suits so they don’t chafe. Everyone wants their parts safe and secure when they’re half naked.”

Why do they go to EVERY sporting event?

We all know boys love their sports, but do we really know why? Whether it’s a high school, college or professional game, you can always count on boys to go to every single one of them. C’mon boys, netflix and chill for once instead of going to the game

BOY VS. Girl VS. BOY

Shea Joffary//Jesuit Senior: “Guys go to every sporting event because we love sports in general…we live and breath sports. But sometimes it is because we have nothing else better to do usually and to hopefully meet girls.

Maddie Bales//AHN Senior: “Because they need to pretend like that they are the most athletic thing that ever existed…YO GUESS WHAT YOU AIN’T MICHAEL JORDAN”

Tyler Doyle// Osceola Senior: “Sports are a way to show how masculine one is without actually saying it. It’s sometimes an insecurity thing but other times it’s just that they like to watch other people compete”

Why do they give each other weird nicknames?

Whether they call each other by their last name or something based on past experiences, they can either be really funny or really dumb, but to girls they will remain confusing. You’ll ask the background of the name and the usual response you will get is, “You wouldn’t understand, you weren’t there.”

BOY VS. BOY

Matthew Ruel//Jesuit Senior: “We do that because we love to joke around with each other”

Tyler Doyle//Osceola Senior: “The weird nicknames are just like a way of keeping themselves on top with masculinity again. That’s why they tend to be terms to diminish or make one’s character feminine.”

Why do they make everything a competition?

No matter what boys do, they can turn it around and make it a competition. Competitive boys, or anyone really, can provoke feelings of irritation, anxiety, or inadequacy; which makes them want to compete back. Whether it is about who can eat more or run faster or can climb the highest, they can make it a competition.

GIRL VS. GIRL

Marie Flores//Tampa Catholic Senior: “ boys want to be manly, they want to present themselves as manly, and competition means manly, sadly it’s just another social norm.”

Alexis Markines//AHN Senior: “I think they just want to be the alpha male and come out on top. Popularity is also something that definitely feeds this competitive drive. Boys also aren’t shy to show off their talents or abilities. Girls tend to be more reserved and are shy to show off; girls would rather someone else show off than themselves to not seem flashy or conceited.”

Why can’t they just ask for help when they need it?

Boys feel the need to be hands on with everything and to do it themselves, even if they have zero clue on what they are doing. Boys, don’t make a fool yourself, if you need help it is OKAY to ask for help from others.

BOY VS.GIRL

Tyler Doyle//Osceola Senior: “Many Guys are way too prideful to ask for help. Society also shames men for doing so, making a weak man seem like a joke”

Marie Flores//Tampa Catholic Senior: “Boys were taught at a young age to “be a man” and the many things that being “a man” comes with, and asking for help, especially a woman’s help is something that is socially acceptable.”

Why do you know so much about the little things?

You ask some does about math or school and occasionally they will more than likely have no clue, but you ask them about the history of the Confederate army, the newest truck, or country music, they will know EVERY SINGLE DETAIL.

BOY VS. BOY

Matthew Ruel//Jesuit Senior: “We know so much about the little things because we tend to pay attention to them more than we do to other things”

Shea Joffary//Jesuit Senior: “It’s a lot easier and more fun to remember the weird and irrelevant things than actually stuff that is enforced to you.”

Why do they say they like a girl, and then talk to 100’s of other girls?

BOYS ARE INDECISIVE AND NEVER KNOW WHAT THEY WANT!

BOY VS GIRL VS BOY

Tyler Doyle//Osceola Senior: “I guess the reason guys tell the same thing to multiple girls is to like throw out bait and see which one goes for it. Also “talking” to a bunch of girls is supposed to be some hot thing to do or whatever.”

Maddie Bales//AHN Senior: “Because they are too afraid of getting hurt by you and admitting they like ONLY you. Boys are insecure, just like us girls, and the thought of being alone scares them just as much as it scares us so they have this need to have back ups.”

Byrne Litschgi//Jesuit Senior: “I think guys do that because it’s hard to focus on one girl when there are so many other temptations around them. However, guys talk to a lot girls because guys are rewarded for “pulling” a ton of girls by his peers.”

What is up with sperrys and nike elite?

Dude, we get it you wear sperrys and crew socks to school, so can we, but all wear are asking for is for you to not wear them everywhere you go.

BOY VS. GIRL

Tyler Doyle//Osceola Senior: “I’ve been asking the same question with the shoes but girls do the same thing with other hot items. I think it’s just more of a teen thing to fit in rather than a gender thing”

Maria Flores//Tampa Catholic: “ I don’t really know why the high Nike elite socks are a thing but it’s for sure a style that’s been brought back; ask your grandparents about crew socks and they will talk all about it.”

What is up with muscle tanks?

All that can be said is #gains

BOY VS. GIRL

Tyler Doyle//Osceola Senior: “Muscle tanks are a form of “peacocking” or showing off your best assets for attention. They do it to show the world they work out and have a good body”

Maddie Bales//AHN Senior: “They are trying to show off what they wish they had or do have and think it makes them cool”

Why are they so scared of losing their masculinity?

#fragilemasculinity

GIRL VS. BOY VS. GIRL

Maria Flores//Tampa Catholic Senior: “Masculinity is a social norm that has been brain washed into men since the beginning of time.men think they’re incapable not to be masculine without being “gay” but in reality it’s almost like there dehumanizing themselves for having sensitive moments”

Tyler Doyle//Osceola Senior: “This is a society problem with masculinity. As a society we enforce strict gender roles in every aspect of life and all that does is more harm than good forcing people to act outside their own natural boundaries to please others. That is probably the short answer to all these questions.”

Alexis Markines//AHN Senior: “Society demands that all men be super masculine I guess. I really don’t think there’s any problem with being an emotional guy. I definitely respect guys who are not hugely masculine.BOYS, EMOTIONS ARE ATTRACTIVE!!”

Why aren’t all guys Harry Styles?

I’m going to just leave these here

Nobody can drag Harry Styles down
Nobody can drag Harry Styles down
Sing it Harry
Sing it Harry
Harry is on the road again
Harry is on the road again

GIRL VS. GIRL VS. GIRL

Grace Baxter//AHN Senior: “Boys aren’t Harry styles because they don’t have hair that will bring mick jagger back from the depths of irrelevance”

Alexis Markines//AHN Senior: “THERE WILL NEVER BE A VALID AN ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION. HOPEFULLY WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY WE CAN FIGURE THIS OUT. GOOD DAY.”

Maddie Bales//AHN Senior: “BECAUSE NOT ALL GUYS SENT DIRECTED FROM GOD INTO THIS WORLD!!!”
