Benefits of Working Out in the Morning

The basketball team is used to morning workouts due to coach Severini setting 5:30 A.M. practices some mornings.

“The early bird catches the worm” is a common saying that basically means  you can get more things done when you wake up early. People wake up early in the morning for several different reasons, but the most common reason is to work out. Some think early-risers are crazy for waking up at 5 or 6 in the A.M. to exercise, but the truth is that there are many benefits to getting your daily workout done in the morning.

  1. You have time to do other things in the afternoon. When you workout in the morning, you have the whole afternoon to either be lazy or catch up on some school work that needed to be done.
  2. You will feel more energized. Working out in the morning will boost your energy and keep you up and awake throughout the day.
  3. You will want to be eat healthy throughout the day. Starting your day off healthy will encourage and motivate you to make better food choices.
  4. A great way to boost your metabolism! Studies show that you are more likely to burn more calories when you workout in the morning as opposed to the afternoon.
  5. Bragging rights!! You get to go straight home after school while your friends complain about having to go to the gym.
  6. Boosts your mood. After getting your exercise done in the morning, you go throughout the rest of the day feeling accomplished and good about yourself.

The benefits to working out in the morning are endless. It can be difficult to wake up early in the A.M. but once you are awake, you realize how much energy you have in the morning.

Tips to help wake up:

  • Set several alarms to allow time to wake up
  • Go to bed early the night before
  • Wash your face to immediately wake you up
  • Put your phone away from your bed so when your alarm goes off you have to get up to turn it off
