During a celebration with her friends and family on Friday, February 22, senior and Achona’s very own Sports Editor Christina Gerecke officially expressed her committment to play golf at Stetson University next fall.

Located in DeLand, Stetson is a NCAA Division I school and its athletic programs compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Gerecke cannot wait to be a Stetson Hatter. “It was really exciting that my hard work over the years has finally paid off and that I am going to attend my first-choice school.”

Her parents, grandparents, twin sister Alexandra, and close friends attended and congratulated Gerecke for her signing. Also, Athletic Director Kevin Vargas and Golf coach Chris Kumka, along with the entire golf team, came to show their support. Opportunities for pictures and cookie cake completed the brief, but joyful, celebration.

Gerecke is not only a talented golf player, but she also serves as the starting third-baseman for Academy’s softball team and shortstop for her travel ball team.
