Once again, the AHN track team rises to the top. Beating the second-place team Berkeley Prep by 115 points, Academy took the district title finishing with a total of 217.5 points. Eighteen girls advanced to Regionals despite injuries, headwinds, and rain on March 12 at Berkeley Preparatory School.
Two school records were broken on Friday by Ryann McEnany in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.59 and Becca Patterson in the 200m dash with a time of 26.46 (an 18 year old record).
Claire Snyder took the win in the 1600 meters in 5:25.21 and the 3200 with the time of 11:45.37. Following behind Snyder in the distance events was fellow teammate Colleen Doherty placing second in the mile and third in the two mile, also contributing points. Both McEnany and Snyder received press on their accomplishments.
Both the 4×400 and 4×800 meter relay were victorious and will compete in the fast heat at Regionals on Thursday.
In the field aspect of track, Jazymne McCloud and Siobhan Lynch won the jumping events with Lynch in the long jump (16 feet 3.5 inches) and McCloud in the triple jump (32 feet 7 inches).
Vallie Joseph placed second in the shot put and third in the discus, contributing points as well. The night ended with Academy of the Holy Names in first place with a total score of 217.5 points, 112 points of ahead of second place team, Berkeley Prep.
With a partial tear in her right quadriceps muscle, doctors told senior captain Ryann McEnany “You don’t need to run anymore.” Despite the advice, McEnany went on to win both of her hurdle events, broke her 100 meter hurdle record with a time of 14.59, and assisted on the win of the girls 4x 400 relay team.
McEnany was proud of her team. “In the years I’ve been here, I can say with all certainty and assurance that the AHN track team has the most talent out of all five years I have been a part of this program. In every area of track and field, whether it is throwing, sprinting, or distance department, each girl contributes immensely to our team.”
