The Student Council, also referred to as “StudCo” elections for the 2026-2027 school year occurred on Tuesday March 24, 2026.

In total there were seven candidates, each seeking to represent the student body in five diverse positions. Camille King (‘27) and Macarena Mejia (‘27) ran for President and Sophomores Izzy Uysal and Amelia Alexander ran for Treasurer. The remaining candidates were Julia Goodman (‘27) for Vice President, Sophomore Colleen Kaley for Corresponding Secretary, and Sami Moreau (‘28) for Recording Secretary.

Macarena Mejia (‘27) commented on the process, saying “This year’s election experience is super different from last year. Last year there were no interviews and the speeches were recorded. This year is a lot more formal but it’s also twice as fun since it feels so official.”

Contrary to previous years, the format of the elections consisted of interviews and speeches to the student body, formalizing the process. In total, the candidates first had to go through an application and interview, to see if they were eligible for candidacy, which in part depended on their overall participation in Student Council.

“To prepare for my speech, I practiced at home so that I would be calm and collected for the real thing,” said Sophomore Sami Moreau.

Those considered fitting for the position then began campaigning, utilizing the traditional posters around the school while also innovating through shared instagram accounts. The final step in the process was giving speeches to the student body during a special convocation on March 24, 2026. President Ali Ibanez (’26) began the convocation and made way for the candidates to begin speaking.

Amelia Alexander (‘28), who ran for Treasurer, said, “During these past two years of being on Student Council as an advisory representative, I’ve loved helping and figuring out all the background action that this club does to help bring events and fun times to life.”

Opposing candidate Sophomore Izzy Uysal said, “I believe that I can help make a positive change. My dedication and past experience would help me with this role. I always get things done and I am very efficient. This will be useful when it comes to making spending decisions, preparing events, and helping with committees.”

Corresponding secretary candidate Colleen Kaley closed off her speech by saying, “Consider all communications Signed, Sealed, and Delivered!”

During her speech, Julia Goodman said, “One person who has also inspired me is Kobe Bryant with his ‘mamba mentality’. One quote of his about leadership says  ‘The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.’”

Following the speeches and voting process, the newly elected officers were announced. Camille King (‘27) was elected President, Julia Goodman (‘27) as Vice President, Colleen Kaley (‘28) as Corresponding Secretary, Sami Moreau (‘28) as Recording Secretary, and Amelia Alexander (‘28) was elected as Treasurer.

King said, “I’m excited to get in this position and be the change I want to see!”
