AHN fall sports athletes compete for victory titles this week

With fall coming to an end and after months of preparation, fall sports have begun or have finished competing in districts, region, or state levels of competition.

The golf team started the series off with a bang, claiming district and region titles and headed wth high hopes for States this past week at Mission Inn Resort and Club (Las Colinas), 10400 County Rd 48, Howey-in-the-Hills.

Senior Christina Gerecke, who has been a member of the team for six years, was excited about the team’s recent victories. “I am extremely proud of my team for staying focused under all the pressure and succeeding in our goal of winning Districts and Regions. I hope the team will continue to play well at States and place in the top five teams.”

Volleyball began its championship series with the District match against Tampa Catholic Tuesday, October 23, at AHN. After going the full five games, losing in the final game by two points, senior volleyball player Erin Przedpelski complimented her team on their talent and dedication. “I feel as if we have improved a lot and made great strides as a team.”

Cross country and the swimming and diving team, whose girls compete as a team with Jesuit boys, recently finished off as champions of their district and pre-championship meets are set to advance to final competitions later this week. Swimming and diving, having wond district championships, look forward to being at their peak this weekend at Regions.

Swimming, diving, and volleyball teams honored senior athletes at their last home meet/match on Tuesday, October 16. Swimming and diving competes at the District meet at AHN on Saturday, October 27.

Junior swimmer Elaine Petrarca said loves the swimming and diving team and cannot believe the season is almost over. “The seniors are a big part of the team and it will be really different without them. I feel like we had a great season this year and I am sad that it is coming to close.”

The cross country team does not consist of any seniors, but recently competed at the Hillsborough County Championships on Friday, October 19. This meet allowed girls to qualify for the District meet on Thursday, November 1.

Junior Gini Barreda, sidelined off and on this fall with injuries, believes that the team has successfully overcome obstacles for a great season. “Even though many team members have gone through several injuries, I feel like we have definitely pulled through and done our best. I’m looking forward to seeing the team’s progress because I have high hopes for States.”

AHN sports, once again, are striving for the best.
