The Quarter Notes attended the Florida Independent Schools Honor Chorus Festival on February 4-5. Hosted by Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Melbourne, this intensive weekend experience provided an opportunity for talented high school singers to experience a new and challenging repertoire of music in a select choir, while under the direction of another conductor of high reputation and expertise.
Academy students, along with students from Holy Trinity, Grandview Prep, The Master’s Academy, and Montverde Academy, found the weekend to be a rewarding one. On Friday evening, Academy students received a private, individual coaching session with Dr. Robert E. Lamb, who wears many hats at Brevard Community College, including Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, and Chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
Dr. Lamb commented on the maturity of the Academy girls’ voices and their progress toward mastery of what he considered a challenging and highly respected piece of music. For this session, they performed a song familiar to the Academy community this year, “This Little Babe.” Their Saturday session comprised a seven-hour rehearsal with the participating schools under the direction of Dr. Lamb.
The day culminated in a mass choir performance on Saturday evening in which stidemts performed a total of five songs in four different languages. Academy students closed out the weekend as they sang their way into “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” before returning to Tampa to enjoy the remainder of the Super Bowl.
Ms. Stefanie Rotolo, drama teacher and chaperone for the trip, commented, “These young ladies had a wonderful experience and continue to make Ms. Linda and myself very proud.”
