Togas and laurel wreaths mark morning show induction

On Friday, May 20, the Academy Latin Honor Society inducted three of its newest inductees in a new twist of “classical tradition meets modern technology. ”  During the school morning news program,  anchors Victoria Foody and Amanda D’Amico,  dressed in togas and laurel wreaths for the occasion, annnounced the induction of Arlyn Barlaan, Karen Cornett and Li Stalder.  Simultaneously, current members of the Latin Honor Society entered the inductees’ homerooms and crowned them with laurel wreaths as the school watched the announcement.

Candidates for the Latin Honor Society must maintain an A average during their first three semesters of Latin and be members in good standing of the National Junior Classical League.  Along with the high academic achievements of Latin students here at the Academy, their performance at the District Latin Forum and the National Latin Test this year validated their long hours of study and knowledge of all things Latin.  Barlaan, Cornett and Stalder received all received Summa cum Laude on the National Latin Test.

Guided by their teacher Mrs. Amy Kafantaris, Foreign Language Department Chair, other star Latin students finished the year with high honors in both the Latin Exam and National District Forum held in March:
