Sawyer Salgado, Senior Staff Writer
Sawyer Salgado is an Academy senior, a first-year staffer, and a senior staff writer. Salgado likes to volunteer at the Humane Society, participate in Academy’s Speech and Debate team, and watch movies. Salgado is also a strong believer in the Peter Pan mentality, and never wants to grow up. Every morning, Salgado wakes up at 4:30 AM to attend a cycling class at 5:15 AM. Salgado is passionate about animal rights, and lives a vegetarian lifestyle. Salgado is also passionate about the LGBTQ+ community, finds pride in educating others on transgender issues, also is involved with the Trevor Project, and recommends others reach out to the organization for LGBT+ information and support. As the only openly transgender person at an all-girls school, Salgado feels a lot of pressure to represent the LGBTQ+ community in a positive way. There have been multiple times were Salgdado was the first transgender student others had encountered. In the future, Salgado hopes to attend UCF and become a nurse to directly help people in need.
