Achona launches new Multimedia News Club

The trend in journalism to convergent media has reached Academy.  Achona Editor in Chief Mary Green and Assistant Editor Josie Little introduced the launch of a new club to fit this trend at the Club Presentation Assembly on Wednesday, August 24.

New members signed up on Club Sign-up Day on August 31.  For students who can not work blue or white clubs into their schedules, Achona Out Club sign-ups are available now.

Already video reporters were on the beat this week during lunch, assemblies and Mass.  On Friday, August 19,  students in the new Honors Journalism class began editing  film prior to adding voice-over reporting techniques.   With the installation of a new Multimedia Page this year on Achona, the staff could see the need for merging its video talents with the Outclub Morning Show to produce news videos that air on the show and then on the news site.   These videos will also be available for the Echoes Yearbook staff to add QR page-scan codes. The club’s motto “Sharing Academy news” sends the message that not only is the club sharing “the news” with the Academy community but has formed a collaborative system for sharing resources with all Academy publications and forums.

The club will be open for registration in both blue and white club days, providing the opportunity for students to extend their participation in video production beyond the classroom or home production.  The club also has a strong need for creative and accomplished writers to write video scripts, captions for slide shows, and news releases.

Potential members must pick up an application form in N407 before Club Sign-Up Day on August 31, or speak to club moderators Mrs. Linda Nutter or Mrs. Edie LeBas.  Priority will be given to students with experiences in multimedia and good writing.
