Isabella Thorpe is a junior and second-year staff writer for ACHONA. Having attended the Ruskin mission trip as a sophomore and a mission trip to Guatemala over the past summer, it is easy to acknowledge her passion for and genuine joy that comes from service work. With this being said, she is beyond thrilled to be a missionary on the Dominican Republic mission trip for this upcoming year. Although Isabella is notorious for taking almost too much pride in her Incan and Peruvian roots and Jewish upbringings, she is enthralled by American history; needless to say, she has a well-known obsession with Alexander Hamilton and considers AP U.S. History with Mrs. Kearney to be her “most difficult, yet most worthwhile and intriguing” course. Isabella is an Ambassador, a member of Prom Committee, Spanish Club, Key Club, National Honors Society, second-year cast member of the school play, and a board member of Teens for Haiti. To cope with her stress, Isabella writes an abundance of poetry, sips chamomile tea, and listens to her “Nonchalant Sob” playlist on Spotify. Isabella’s survival kit includes all albums by The Beatles, Frank Ocean, Fleet Foxes, Kendrick Lamar, Solange, and Childish Gambino, as well as a great deal of coffee. Over the summer, she interned with USA Today’s The News Journal, stationed in Delaware. Isabella admits that by writing for ACHONA, she has gained a greater appreciation for journalism and aspires to write for a reputable newspaper in Boston, Chicago, or New York after college as an investigative journalist.
